How does it come together?

1. Area 4-H clubs adopt a local non-profit organization.
2. The club’s members learn about that organization, how they serve the community, and how they can help meet some of those needs.
3. The clubs purchase and prepare all of the supplies needed to make/assemble a cool project at the event.
4. Each club will have worked on the logistics of the projects to help set YOU up for success.
5. 4-H members will have instruction signs and will be there to give helpful tips on how to complete the project at their station.
6. After the event, all finished projects will be given to the respective organizations – if there is a representative from that organization present, we will load things up in their vehicle for them to deliver to their facility!

You can impact organizations from around Central Ohio:
Visit up to 15 different non-profit organizations! They each have ample space to complete a project that has been prepared specifically for their mission in mind.

Will I have time to go to all of the stations?
It is not a race to get to all 15 stations, it is a collective effort to complete well made projects to be put to use. We want you to learn about the different organizations and take your time making something that will be useful!

9:30 a.m. – noon

Who can participate making the hands-on service projects?

• Clover 5K Participants
• Youth Groups
• Adult singles, groups, clubs and families (most projects geared towards children in 2nd grade and up)
• Middle school and high school students fulfilling community service requirements
• People in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s…
• Kiwanians, Lions, Knights, Scouts, Military, Masons, Soroptimists, Sororities, Fraternities, etc…
• Anyone who wishes to put their HANDS to LARGER service!

Where is it located?
The event is held inside the Ganyard and Edward Buildings on the Franklin County Fair Grounds. The buildings are located next to one another. The amount of space is just right for you to Walk & Serve!

What should I do when I am there?
First, find the registration tent, quickly sign in, grab a map, and get started.

Walk up to a table and read the sign. The signs will tell you:

1. The name of the non-profit organization
2. A project description
3. How it will benefit their clients
4. The 4-H Club(s) who prepared the supplies and who will be available for questions

Look for a sign that says Start – someone will be there to help give directions.

When you are done with the project, place it in the Completed Project area at that station.

What do I do if I need to leave?
The event is “open house” style, so people are welcome to come and go as they need. IF you are a student who needs a Community Service Documentation Letter, return to the registration tent.

How do I earn Community Service Hours?
If you are a student or Scout earning community service hours, let them know at the registration tent. They will mark the time that you arrived on your map. Have your map stamped at each station when you complete a project. When you leave, bring your map back to the Registration Tent and they will give you a signed letter documenting the time you spent at the 4-H Walk & Serve.

Depending on the requirements of your school the Clover 5K may also be another way to earn hours from community service. The event is to benefit non-profit organizations. If you register and participate in the Clover 5K, we will have Community Service Documentation available.

What does it cost to participate?
Nothing, the Walk & Serve is a free event – open to the public!

Funding comes from a variety of sources including profit earned from the from the Clover 5K, grant funds from a generous foundation (who wishes to remain anonymous), local businesses, 4-H Clubs, families, and the Franklin County Agricultural Society. Additional supporters are welcome.
